Hi Jack! Thanks for the note after I signed Varmint Al's guest book. As you might guess, I'm a life member of NRA. Was a few miles north of Capay this morning shooting ground squirrels. There's a nice crop of them this year. I was shooting between 40 & 100 yards and was hitting good, so I stuck to the rimfire - a model 69A Win. with 3-12 Tasco scope. Had a model 788 Rem in 223 cal. with me but don't even have to clean it this time. Like I said, the 223IMP is my favorite. Have 2. One is a Rem with Shilen #5 contour match Stainles 24" with 14" twist with 6-24 B@L 4000 series scope. It's not difficult to get 3750fps with 50gr bullets in iether gun. The other is a stock model (but switc barrel)12BVSS Savage with a 9" twist 26" barrel, also with a B&L. I shoot 50 to 75gr bullets in it at about 3250 fps (for the 75's). The other barrel is a stock Savage 14" twist 22/250 barrel. Since I got a Chronograph I'm less impressed with 22/250. It equires about 7 more grains of powder to get same velocity as the 223IMP! Your website is very nice! I know it takes lots of work to keep one of those things going because I've been talking to another ex-Korea era Seabee who has put up a site and has been working like hell on it. I found your page today while looking for varmint calling information. I am a long time deer hunter who recently began reloading (3 years ago). I enjoy the outdoors, including camping, fishing, hunting, shooting and etc. I hope to thin down the coyote population around Ventura County (above Ojai) in the near future. I have my roots in the Central Valley (Denair, Turlock, Patterson) and spent a lot of quality time around Tuolomme and Mariposa Counties' hunting with friends and family members. I intend to try deer hunting up in the Shasta-Trinity forests this fall, since the deer seem to be really dwindling out in the D6 area. I also like to cook game meats and use my smoker to prepare fish and jerky, etc. Guess I've rambled long enough thanks for the tips on getting on to private land (to help with predator problems). Camo, I followed your link, goo looking page. I was stationed in Sacramento at McCelland AFB and did a lot of fishing on the Middle Fork of the American (Clemintine dam) and the Silver Fork near Kyber. Check the map and the first rt turn after the Kyber Hotel, will take you toward China Flats Campground. If you climb in the vally about 1/2 mile down stream of the campgrounds there is a ravine with a 10-15 ft water fall. This stops the campers and the Trout fishing for Big Rainbow's and German browns, is great form there till you get within 1/4 mi for the hard road at Kyber. Good Shooting , Rick B. (Rick Brown /Ga. Boy thoes were really nice airplanes. I sure would like to have the one in the second picture. Looks like really pretty country would like to come visit you sometime. Maybe I could rent a plane and fly out myself. I got my license in 1978 but need to be check out and new physical. Maybe we can get aquainted some day,(Walter that is.) The fishing lso sounds interesting have never been on the ocean fishing before. But I am game for anything once! Really enjoyed your homepage but really had a tough time finding it.
